The bones of this former residence of Paul and Bunny Mellon were stellar but needed an update for the new owners and their young family. Our goal: capture the essence of the Art Deco Jazz Age but in a contemporary interpretation.  Clean lines, a silvery palette, and a rich interplay of textiles and finishes all while honoring the grandeur of the Georgian architectural envelope. Elegant, refreshing, iconic property. Architect: BVA

A contemporary interpretation of southwest style that is monastically simple yet bold. The palette of blues, grays, coppers and browns are all shades drawn from the landscape outdoors. Low maintenance materials and surfaces make entertaining easy. A family retreat where the mountain and waterfall views take center stage. Architect: Eric Cummings

An elegant haven for a client’s treasures, books, and two beloved Abyssinians. We helped re-curate a priceless collection of art and antiquities in a way that is fresh and inviting. The result is a light and airy home that doesn’t feel weighed down by the erudite collection. Durers, amphoras and Aubussons, in harmony.

Beach and rainforest views, world-class art, barefoot elegance. Minimal yet plush, a monochromatic scheme, with an emphasis on texture and tactile fabrics. Design details blur the line between indoors and out. Hurricane Maria’s devastation deepened the commitment to support premier Puerto Rican and Caribbean artists and galleries. Ample spaces for individuals as well as family gatherings. An oasis! Architect: SB Architects

A perfect house near the perfect golf course. A couple with numerous antiques. A love for Swedish and French painted furniture, and open airy spaces. To transform the existing dark rooms, we dropped in skylights and installed light, bleached flooring. We created an elegant lower level by removing dark, dreary panelling. Lightness!

A traditional Virginia farmhouse vernacular, with a modern feel. Rooms are serene, with clean lines and carefully chosen materials and finishes that do not distract from the arresting landscape outside. Rolling hills and Shenandoah mountains take center stage. Walnut from trees cut during construction gives the rooms a visual warmth. A celebration of the site and its history. Architect: Carter & Burton Architecture

A couple needed a place to hang their hat to be near their grandchildren in Texas. And a place to hang their world class art collection. Southwest Territorial updated to airy and light with a neutral palette to let the art shine. Total comfort and livability. We opened up the house as much as possible to let in the beautiful desert sky.

A Parisian-style jewel box with amazing Latin American art. We added beams and ceiling articulation, moldings over the door frames, and bronzed mirrors to create an architectural focus. A salon-style art wall for the TV deemphasizes the technology and brings the collection forward. Our eleventh home for this beloved Puerto Rico-based family.

A 1930’s farmhouse-style home tucked away in the middle of the city. An oasis with vegetable gardens, beehives, and a swimming pool. The clients have a collection of Americana furnishings, sculptures, and paintings, which include the atmospheric colors of Wolf Kahn’s landscapes and the whimsy of Grandma Moses’ works. A light and cheerful color palette. Perfect for family living. Architect: BVA

The clients were inspired by the antiques and patina-rich interiors of Provence. Stairs are bleached, stained, and limed. Muted grey and blue fabrics are used on the reverse to give a faded elegance. Subtle details create a washed-out luxury and feeling of history. Quietly luxurious, yet casual enough to be suitable for the sandy feet and wet bathing suits that are part of summertime family gatherings. Architect: Brian Boyle

A complete renovation turned a bland space into a glamorous and tailored haven. Elegance and light. We maintained a neutral palette and kept the look contemporary, but with a nod to the Art Deco style. Potomac River views shimmer from every room.

Our clients wanted a new look for their Palm Beach property. We opted for a cheerful yet sophisticated and worldly look appropriate to the local climate and aesthetic. A layering of antiques, vibrant wall coverings, and lavish textiles. A juxtaposition of different colors, styles, and periods that live harmoniously together to create a nuanced whole. The clients downsized from a traditional residence in Bethesda and wanted something modern, elegant, and urban. An opportunity to simplify, without giving away the richness. Renovations, the reworking of floor plans, integration of technology. Furniture with clean lines, plush textiles, and bold modern art. The result is pared-down luxury with a chic sensibility.

Mid-century modern inspired with strong architectural bones. The rich palette of architectural materials gave us a jumping-off point to build on. Bold hues became a backdrop for a special collection of curated artwork. We also added softness and fun elements for this active young family. Architect: BVA

A jewel-box residence at the Ritz Carlton inspired by the young jet-set clients’ chic style. Elegant and modern with rich and luxurious textiles for both visual and tactile comfort. We developed the residence’s floor plan and refined the bulky existing mechanical systems to clean up the architecture and gain ceiling height. A rich palette of dramatic marbles, fine woods, silks, and gilded details. Total glamour.
